What is Guitar?
The Guitar is a musical instrument that usually has six strings. It is a type of chordophone, traditionally constructed from wood and strung. It is typically played with both hands by strumming or plucking the strings with either a guitar pick or fingernails of one hand, while simultaneously pressing the strings against the frets with the fingers of the other hand. The sound of the vibrating strings is projected either acoustically, using the hollow chamber of the guitar (for an acoustic guitar) or through an electrical amplifier and a speaker.

Who Invented the Guitar?
Adolph Rickenbacker was the inventor of modern Guitar. He was a Swiss-American electrical engineer who co-founded the Rickenbacker guitar company along with George Beauchamp and Paul Barth.
George Delmetia Beauchamp was an American inventor of musical instruments. He is known for designing the first electrically amplified stringed instrument to be marketed commercially. He was also a founder of National Stringed Instrument Corporation and Rickenbacker (originally Rickenbacher) guitars. Some of his inventions are:-
Types haven't ended here. There are many classifications under string instruments namely :
- 1929: Patent applied for the single-cone dobro guitar, patent #1,808,756
- 1930: Patent applied for metal finger picks (now commonly used for steel guitar and banjo), patent #1,787,136
- 1934: Patent applied for the electric lap steel guitar (nicknamed the frying pan), patent #2,089,171
- 1936: Patent applied for the electric guitar (called the electro Spanish guitar, which was a hollow-body electric guitar)
Types of Guitar:-
There are 2 main types of guitar: acoustic and electric. But there are some important variations within those groups that some people classify as different types of guitar entirely.
-
Acoustic Guitars: This is the type of guitar most people are familiar with. Acoustic guitars have hollow bodies that amplify the sound of the strings acoustically. They are usually made of wood and have six strings. Some acoustics have steel strings that are ideal for folk, rock, blues & country. Others have nylon strings which are better for classical and flamenco guitar.
- Electro-acoustic guitars: are acoustic guitars that have a ‘pick-up’ (basically, a microphone) built into them so they can be plugged into an amplifier or a PA system. This is a way of ‘connecting’ an acoustic guitar up to an amp to make it louder.

- Semi-acoustic guitars: (sometimes also called ‘hollow-bodied electric guitars’) occupy something of a middle-ground between acoustic guitars and electric guitars. They’re thin and compact like electric guitars, but have hollow bodies like acoustic guitars. Because they’re thin and compact, they won’t produce quite as loud a sound when unplugged as an acoustic will, hence the term: semi-acoustic. Some notable models of semi-acoustic are the Gibson ES-335 and the Fender Telecaster Thinline (basically a semi-acoustic telecaster).
- Electric Guitars: Unlike the previous guitars, these guitars have solid bodies and as such, produce very little in the way of sound unless they’re plugged into an amplifier. If you want to play an electric guitar you will need an amplifier. Electric guitars come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some of the most iconic is the Gibson Les Paul, the Fender Stratocaster, and the Fender Telecaster. Like the acoustic guitar, electric guitars are usually made of wood and usually have six strings, though there are twelve string versions available.
